Emergencies are increasing and are frequent
Examples are the Eastern Ontario ice storm, severe wind, power outages, earthquakes, more drought and floods, forest fires, civil unrest, strikes, a forecast swine flue pandemic…… When these occur, stores can be sold out, people must evacuate their homes……….
Prophecy states that disruptions will increase—see the prophecy papers on this website. These papers are based on prophecies in the Bible, Latter Day Saint (LDS) prophecies, those of Deganawidah, the Iroquois prophet, and the impressions of White Wolf. Governments and the LDS Church are encouraging people to prepare for difficulties—in particular, to have a 72 hour emergency pack if you must vacate your home. The LDS’s are asked to have 3 months of essentials on hand, and to build toward a one year supply.
72 hour pack
This is needed if you had to suddenly leave your home, such as with wild fires, flooding, possible epidemics, extremes in weather, disrupted services, civil unrest……
There should be the equivalent of one pack of essentials for each member of the family:
- 3 day emergency supply of food and water
- a change of clothing, plus that for cold weather
- candles, flashlights…….
- emergency sleeping bag and shelter
- matches, fire starter, soap…...
- first aide kit and meds
- money
- key documents, including those you most preserve
- a half tank plus of fuel in your car
For more info, see government publications, such as from Ontario, or your local LDS Church or missionaries.
3 month supply—to allow for extended disruptions
This should include:
- food that stores well and which you will eat plus vitamin tablets
- a way of cooking food if electricity or gas are unavailable
- first aide supplies and meds
- clothing including that for cold weather, sleeping bags, blankets, rain gear…
- emergency heating such as a wood stove with wood, extra fuel……
- safe keeping of key documents and records
- possibly a generator with fuel
For more info, go to—lds.org, click on Home and Family, Family Home Storage or see your LDS missionaries.
Longer term emergencies
Everything under the 3 month category plus more:
- particularly store food for world reserves of grain and rice are fast declining and prices rising. This trend is expected to continue due to climate change, drought……..
- savings
- reduce your debt and maintain good credit
For more info, see government bulletins or lds.org or LDS missionaries.
Getting started with food storage…..
Most people cannot accomplish all advocated quickly. Start and proceed consistently. For instance, buy a few emergency food items each week. Your stock will grow.
Rotate your stored food by consuming the oldest items and replacing them with new food—then you won’t have stored food which has gone bad.
Work on reducing debt and start savings. If you do what you can, the Lord then can make up for any shortages and problems, provided you have been diligent.
The most important preparation, is Spiritual
When people are spiritually connected with their Creator, He can do much to help:
- warn you thru impressions of the spirit of dangers, tell you where to go, what to do….
- strengthen you, calm you
- lead you to or provide needed supplies if you have done what you could for storage
- He can lead you to areas of refuge
Being spiritually connected is the most important part of preparing. To become connected, see papers on this website and/or your LDS missionaries.
