My experience with the Spirits of Nature
After my father died, my mother married a fine man who was very familiar with the Spirituality of the natural world.
I trapped with him for many years and was taught much. We appealed to the trees, wind, plants, animals and other natural spirits for help. These spirits assisted much and thus life went very well in the bush. Years later, I had a powerful dream with an important message. I was in my mothers house. There were a number of guests dressed in fine clothing. Eventually, they all left. But soon one came back who was particularly well dressed. He said: "I want you, you belong to me". I replied that he couldnt touch me-- I had crosses, rosary beads and other sacred things to protect me. He replied that they wouldn't help. I used them to no avail. He grabbed me and took me up toward the sky. He turned into a hideous monster. I was much frightened and helpless.
In the distance, I saw a light. I cried out, Creator, help me. Immediately, I was released from the grasp of this monster.
I learned three important lessons from this:
1) Our Creator can rescue us from evil and has control over evil.
2) The evil spirit that had grabbed me, represented one of the spirits in the natural world my stepfather and I had appealed to. Thus, some of the natural spirits do not align themselves with the Creator but with the evil side. Therefore, when we approach the spirits in Nature, we must not appeal to them in a way that can put us under their control. We must not worship them-- we pray to the Great Spirit, Our Creator.
3) When we need help, we should approach the Creator-- it is a safe way of getting help.
A vision
A few years ago, when I was canoeing on the Spanish River with Native youth, I had a vision. In it, two Braves brought a wolf pup to my tent. I understood this to be a sign that matters will be getting better for the Native people.
Another vision
I have had a wonderful vision of the future. I have seen fine looking youth dressed in blue, walking in unison from the west toward the east. We will soon see a generation of beautiful young people.
